Economic Impact of RSVP Volunteers

44 Arrowhead RSVP volunteers give more than 6,00 hours anually to provide free tax services for lower-income residents and senior citizens. They serve through seven tax programs in St. Louis and Lake Counties during the tax season from February 1 to April 15.

Last year, trained volunteers prepared tax forms for an estimated 7,102 individuals at more than 12 locations, representing 11,399 tax returns. Filers saved approximately $1.37 million in preparation fees (11,399 returns x $120). In just Northern St. Louis County, $1.2 million in Federal refunds, $558,429 in Earned Income Credit, $156,221 in Child Tax Credit and $43,179 in Education Credit returned to the taxpayers using this service.

Because these clients have very modest incomes, refund dollars will likely not be invested or saved but spent locally, strengthening the local economy.
